A human chain was held at the corner of Chowdhury on Sunday (September 20) morning organized by the all-party Sampriti Udyog Mongla to demand free, fair, neutral and acceptable elections in the expedited Mongla Port Municipality. Former Upazila Vice Chairman and journalist Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, coordinator of the all-party Sampriti Udyog Mongla, presided over the rally during the human chain at 11 am on Sunday. Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Utpal Mandal, Sujan Acting President Prof Sheikh Nazrul Islam, Upazila Juba League Senior Vice President Rafiqul Islam Sohag, Municipal BNP leader Abdus Salam Bepari, BNP leader Abdur Rashid, Labor League leader Nuruddin Al Masud and CPB leaders addressed the rally. Md. Nazmul Haque etc. During the human chain, the speakers at the rally said that ten years are going to pass and the election of Mongla Port Municipality will not be held.
The last election of Mongla Port-Municipality was held on 13 January 2011. Where the current council is stuck in legal issues related to the border even after their term has expired. And so, we demand a free, fair, impartial and credible election in Mongla Port-Municipality as soon as possible. Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, coordinator of All-Party Harmony Initiative Mongla, said in his speech that “All-Party Harmony Initiative” has been formed in Mongla with the participation of 20 local people led by various cultural and social organizations including Bangladesh Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh CPB. The purpose of which is to work for the protection of democracy and basic human rights in order to increase peace, order, harmony and harmony in the area. And so we demand a free, fair, impartial and credible municipal election as soon as possible to protect the democratic rights of the citizens of Mongla Port-Municipality. We demand this election with people from all parties. At the end of the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and the Election Commission through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on behalf of the All-Party Harmony Initiative.
